Field Notes
CoCoRaHS Station: TX-SO-4 Date Taken: 9/5/16 Don't be misled by any dry stems in photos. Those are normal, not an indication of any unusual dryness. Native spring grasses (e.g purple threeawn) go to seed and turn brown in summer no matter how wet the soil. Also spring wildflowers that have gone to seed. The purple plants at my feet are Eryngo (Eryngium leavenworthii), currently in the middle of its annual blooming period. Lower leaves and stalk of Eryngo always turn brown as the plant grows taller. The green plants in the foreground are mostly forbs of several types. There is a lot of native Little Bluestem grass in the photos, but not right in front of the camera. Visible if you enlarge. #CoCoRaHsSep16
