Field Notes
CoCoRaHs Station WI-RS-1 These photos taken 9/1/12 AM show evidence of drought on my 40 acres. I have recorded 1.07" of rain in August, and a total of 2.87" since July 4. Since both these months were above normal temps (esp July), my soil moisture is now about down to nil. The best photographic evidence of drought I have is of plant stress. The third photo shows a wild crab severely stressed, having dropped half its leaves now littering its base. Although Ladysmith is not included in areas considered in drought on the Drought Monitor, we have missed most of the rain during the past 8 weeks, and it is now drier than I have ever seen. Twin Creek on the south side of my property is barely flowing, and a tag alder swamp running through the center of my property has completely dried up. Even the tag alders are dropping their leaves. #CoCoRaHSSep12
