"I am Station HI-HI-13 in Volcano, Hawaii on the Big Island. I am also a Regional Coordinator on the Big Island for CoCoRaHS. Attached is a photo of my rain gauge and the western corner of our property, taken on Saturday, September 1, 2012. We are at around 3500 ft. and 1.5 miles NE of the Volcano Village US Post Office.
Our precipitation this summer and year to date is around normal, currently at 98% based on the University of Hawaii 2011 Rainfall Atlas. For June, July and August we have had 31.08 inches, and year to date, 94.99 inches. The cloud forest/rain forest of tree ferns and Ohia trees here in Volcano remains healthy and vibrant this summer. However, there are areas on this island and on the other islands which are below normal and are suffering from drought conditions."
